Between Poetry and music - workshops

Eva van Manen and Chadiedja Buijs collaborates on projects in which she performative creating art at the intersection of literature, music and theater. They are connected by their work and ideas about emancipation, safety and beauty. In September 2022, they created and performed together with a group of poets “Beyond Joy and Sorrow” at the international Literature Festival Read My World in Amsterdam. A performative, tongue in cheek, poetic investigation into what is beyondjoy and sorrow is.

During the Theater is a MUST Festival, November 2023 Alexandria Egypt, this year they will give a workshop entitled "I am a River beyond the periphery of the skin". Together with 10 Egyptian female spoken word artists and performers from different cultural backgrounds, they create a performance based on an intercultural dialogue about the experience of the body in a social and political context. During the festival, the female makers participate in writing together and under the guidance of Chadiedja and Eva, they investigate the possibilities of creating a musical spoken word performance in the four-day workshop. The aim is to rediscover in the form of language and music what our ownership , practice and connection with the body is the exchange of knowledge in informal and somatic forms, and to transform this in a creative way into a performance, together with music by Eva van Manen and local Egyptian musicians.

In 2018, Eva was invited by the festival to perform the music from her first album "Politics & Love". This year she was again invited by the festival to give a workshop together with Chadiedja. They both have experience and passion as lecturer. Chadiedja developed her own profession at the Maastricht theater academy and Eva has experience as accompanying coach at rosetta., the platform for female music producers of which she is a co-founder.

For the Theater is a MUST festival in Alexandria, Egypt 2023, they've led a four day workshop called "I am a River beyond the periphery of the skin" where they come together with 10 Egyptian female spoken word artists and performers from different cultural backgrounds to have an intercultural dialogue about the experience of the body in social and political context. During the festival female artists participate in writing and together with Chadiedja and Eva explore in a four day workshop the possibility of creating a musical spoken word performance together. The goal of the workshop is to research an artistic output based on an intercultural dialogue between female artists and writers from different social backgrounds and countries together to participate in dialogue and to examine what’s hidden under our skin. The goal is to rediscover our agency, practice and engage in informal and somatic forms of knowledge-sharing, and to creatively transform this into performative pieces accompanied by music by Eva van Manen and local Egyptian musicians. 

In 2018 Eva got invited as an artist, poet, music composer and theater maker to perform at the Theater is a MUST festival with the music of her first album "Politics & Love". This year she got invited back by the festival. Chadiedja is a teacher at the Theater Academy Maastricht and Eva has experience as a coach within her own platform rosetta. for female music producers.
